Race Reports: Reaper’s Kickoff Season With Triathlon Podiums

This weekend the Grim Reaper Fitness triathlon club & coached athletes turned in amazing performances at the Pioneer Sprint, Sullivan, and Try Tri Triathlons. Podiums and PR’s were the order of the day with incredible results. On the women’s side of aisle Romanie Walter took 2nd overall at Pioneer and was seconds off of the leader (GRF good friend Aimee Dzieken). Also stepping onto the podium was Lisa Kiley, Kelly Ruiter, and Lynn Stayley. On the Men’s side it was Tom Keller nailing 3rd overall with a massive bike split and a rapidly improving swim time. Also podium worthy was Matthew Cuttell, David Cate, and the Athlete Factory’s own, Casey Haak (in his first triathlon ever). Pioneer had some killer hills on the bike and run, a relentless wind on the bike and temperatures that were actually hot! As always the O’Connor’s of Tri Harder Promotions put on a an incredible race. We are proud to work with and sponsor such an amazing family and race series.

Some Reaper’s were gluttons for punishment and thought if one tri is good, then two are better. Tom Keller again hit the podium taking 2nd overall at the Sullivan Tri and was joined with an age group victory by Damon Dusin in M 35-39. Coach Auth and Coach Rankin turned their attention south and attacked Racemaker Productions Try Tri in Edwardsville at SIUE. On tired legs they found great success on a hilly and very windy (20+mph) bike course. Coach Rankin took 1st in the M 35-39 and Coach Auth smoked to 2nd in the M 45-49 (7th and 8th overall respectively). Great race organized by Lee O’Connor and his lovely wife.

So if you were keeping track, that was 12 Overall and AG award winners this weekend. Big thanks to all of our GRF race supporters that came to take pictures and support their loved ones or spouses. We could not be the successful triathletes we are without your constant support! Special thanks to David Ford and Dan Stayley for snapping some great pics!

Upcoming Club Races: Rev 3 Knoxville, Capital City Biathlon, and TRI/Dri-Shark!

Don’t forget to join us tonight at the Multisport Expo at the Marriott in Uptown Normal from 5-8pm. You too can join GRF and get in on all the action to make 2014 your best season yet!
