Grim Reaper Fitness was the top-scoring Mideast Regional Club Racing Series (MERCRS) team at the International Triathlon Union Racing Series event in Chicago June 27-29 as announced Monday by the USA Triathlon (USAT) Mideast Region.
Five GRF members scored points across two races – Olympic and Sprint – at the ITU Chicago, part of a global, eight-race series that includes separate elite races for Olympic-caliber triathletes. This premier event, which will be held in Chicago again next year before rotating to a different US city, was worth double points for participating clubs.
GRF was awarded a $100 incentive for its top finish among all MERCRS clubs. The MERCRS Club Racing Series awards point based on individual participation and performance, as well as bonus points for total club participation and distance traveled to events. GRF competes in Division III, for which club rosters are limited to 29 members. Division II teams are allowed 30 to 88, and Division I teams 89 or more. The USAT Mideast Region includes teams from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky; only USAT sanctioned races in those states are scored.MERCRS scores from the ITU Chicago included:
