
Reapers compete at Ironman 70.3 Racine
Jeff Grabinski finished in the top 5% overall, and two of his GRF teammates completed their first Half Ironman distance races at the weekend’s Ironman Racine 70.3.
Grabinski came in a 4:44:10, which was good for 21st of 323 in the 35-39 Age Group, but also 92nd overall of nearly 1,800 racers. Jeff’s best leg was his 31:29 swim, which as 14th in his Age Group. His bike of 2:26:09 was also good for 16th in the Age Group.
Rhonda Heinz complete her first 70.3, finishing at 7:38:59 in the 50-54 AG. Rhonda’s best leg was her bike of 3:10:41, good for a 17.62 average speed. Rhonda was 40th of 64 competitors in her age group.
Finally, Illinois State University Tri-Bird Michael Braun put up a 5:20:25 in his first Half Iron. Michael was 25th of 103 racers in the 18-24 Age Group. His day was highlighted by a 31:33 swim leg.
GRF Cyclists take two 1sts
Grim Reaper Fitness cyclists were victorious in two events over the weekend.
David Ford made it two weeks in a row as he followed up his first career victory with a Cat 3 1st place at the Palos Meltdown Bike Race. David topped a field of 172 in the race at Palos Forest Preserve outside Chicago.
Jamie Wheeler was first of 13 racers at the Tour de Crystal Lake Cat 4 women’s criterium at McHenry County.
