
Carey Weaver and Dave Quinn took top overall finishes and two other Reapers won Age Groups in one of the last big racing weekends of the year.
Carey, racing at Oak Run Triathlon outside Galesburg, IL, was 2nd overall in the sprint event Saturday, finishing at 1:00:45. Dave, competing Sunday at Tri the Illini in Champaign, IL, was 4th overall in 1:04:49.
Tri the Illini is a slightly longer event featuring a 300-yard pool swim and a 14.5-mile bike leg, while Oak Run consists of a 300-yard out-and-back, open water swim and a 12-mile bike. Both events finish with a 3.1-mile run.
Eleven club members competed at Tri the Illini, where Jeff Grabinski and Erik Rankin finished 1-2 in the 35-39 AG. Jeff finished at 1:07:17, including a 22.9 mph bike average on a day with 15 to 20 mph winds. Erik came in at 1:10: 33.
Matt Cuttell was awarded a 4th-place finish in the 30-34 AG with a time of 1:06:46, while Wendy Smith and Jodi Hari placed 3rd in the women’s 40-44 and 45-49 AGs, respectively. Matt had the sixth fastest swim of the day and an overall time of 1:06:46 in a very competitive age group. Wendy had a strong 19.2 mp bike leg en route to an overall time of 1:21:30, while Jodi came in at 1:26:20.
At Oak Run, Mike Seeborg captured an AG victory, taking the 65-69 in 1:17:19. On the women’s side, Bev Smith, Jessica Miner and Rhonda Heinz brought home top AG finishes. Bev was 2nd in 55-59 at 1:29:24; Jessica 3rd in 35-39 at 1:16:47; and Rhonda 3rd in 50-54 at 1:22:14.
Lynn Staley won her Age Group and finished 9th overall at the Das Bier Run 5K on the Peoria Riverfront Sunday. Lynn ran a 23:54 for a 7:42 pace.
On the day Reapers netted over 100 points for the USAT Mideast Region Club Series to increase their commanding lead in Division III.
