
Grim Reaper Fitness runners got the outdoor season off to a fast start, winning three Age Groups, while Lisa Becharas won the overall women’s championship at the Bloomington St. Patrick’s Day 5K on Sunday.
Becharas, the Illinois Wesleyan assistant track coach, led a GRF contingent of 20+ by running an 18:41 to win the women’s title by 21 seconds.
On the men’s side, Michael Braun, an ISU Tri Bird, placed 8th overall and easily won the men’s 15-19 Age Group with a time of 18:12, the best time for the Reapers on the day.
Kevin Tuuk and David Quinn battled to the finish line to win their respective Age Groups. Tuuk ran an 18:53 to place 15th overall and win the 40-44, while Quinn was one second behind at 18:54 to place 16th overall and win the 45-49.
On the women’s side, Celeste Kudrys and Lynn Staley each finished 2nd in their Age Groups. Kudrys ran a 21:46 to place 2nd in 35-39 and Staley came in at 23:43 to win 45-49.
Splash Mash Dash Indoor Triathlon at 4 Seasons
Tuuk also placed 2nd overall and won the 40-and-over Age Group in Saturday’s Splash Mash Dash Indoor Triathlon at 4 Seasons in Bloomington.
The event featured a 10-minute pool swim, a 20-minute ride on a stationary bike, and a 15-minute run on an indoor track. Tuuk had the best run of all participants, covering 2.42 miles in 15 minutes.
Jessica Miner finished 2nd overall in the women’s division and won the 18-39 Age Group. Kevin Callis and Nancy Braun each finished 2nd in their respective 40-and-over Age Groups, while Mike Seeborg and Missy Thomas were 3rd in 40-and-over.
