Lisa Becharas won the overall women’s triathlon, Cody Giebelhausen was 3rd overall in the men’s duathlon, and Angela Holcomb and Crystal Kyle finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the women’s duathlon at the Tri-Shark triathlon and Dri-Shark duathlon Saturday at Comlara Park. Nine other Reapers garnered top 3 finishes.
Becharas finished in a time of 1:08:32, clinching her victory with a 20:32 in the 5k portion of the race, the best women’s run time of the day.
Giebelhausen took 3rd in the duathlon (2-mile run, 13-mile bike, 3.1-mile run) thanks to an 11:40 on the first run – the day’s 2nd best – and a 20:08 on the second run – the day’s 3rd best. The duathlon again served as the USAT Mideast Region Championship. Holcomb won the Master’s title, finishing in 1:23:12, while Kyle came in at 1:26:21. Holcomb had the best women’s bike time in the duathlon, completing the 13-mile course in 37:56.
Jason Hebel finishebest d 6th overall in the men’s triathlon at 1:06:08, which was good for 1st by 38 seconds in the competitive men’s 35-39 age group. Chris Braun won the 18-19 men’s division at 1:10:58. His 600-yard swim of 8:32 was the men’s time of the day.
Other Reapers taking top 3 finishes in the triathlon included: Maria Hernandez at 2nd in 45:49 (1:25:08); Lily Matthews at 2nd in 13-15 (1:25:47); David Cate 2nd in under-40 Clydesdale at 1:26:30; and Natalie McKee 3rd in Athena at 1:35:33.
Joining Gielbelhausen on the duathlon podium were: Lisa Kiley at 2nd in women’s 50-55 (1:30:47); Pam Walden at 3rd in 50-55 (1:34:04); and Scott Dixon at 2nd in 60-64 at 1:48:00.
