
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – New Reaper Annie McGee, competing in her very first triathlon, won the Half Ironman distance in the 30-34 age group at the Grand Rapids Triathlon Sunday.
The event doubled as the USA Triathlon (USAT) Clydesdale and Athena National Championships. Natalie McKee placed 6th and David Cate 8th in their respective divisions.

McGee used the women’s 5th-best swim time (30:32) to get off to a strong start en route to an overall time of 5:51:08. Her run time of 1:59:32 was also her division’s best. Hulda Black placed 5th in 35-39 with a time of 6:01:44.
McKee, competing in the Athena Sprint 39-and-under class, finished in 1:40:22, while her husband, Cate, posted a 1:33:38 in the Clydesdale Sprint 40-and-over division.
Other sprint racers included Riley Cate, who was 4th in 18-and-under in 1:55:23, and Bev Smith, who was 5th in 60-64 at 1:57:41.
In the Half Iron Aquabike, Nancy Braun placed 9th with a time of 3:57:33.
