Reapers have big day in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD – Michael Braun took 5th overall in the Iron Abe Olympic Triathlon and four other Reaper brought home 1st-place finishes from a big race for GRF Sponsor TriHarder Promotions.

Braun led a contingent of 25 Reapers who made the trip to Springfield to compete in three races by posting a 2:16:59 to win the 20-24 age group by 16 minutes. Bryan Heppe also won his age group, taking 1st in 40-44 with a time of 2:28:31.

In the Stoneman Sprint, Tim Auth, Lisa Kiley, and Riley Cate won their divisions, while Brenda Shaw and newcomer Josh Todden teamed up to win the relay. Auth won the Clydesdale division in 1:15:58, while teammate David Cate was 3rd at 1:23:58. Kiley continued to clean up in the women’s 55-59 division, taking 1st in 1:20:15, while Riley Cate used efficient transition times for a 47-second win in 14-and-under, including a total advantage of 1:52 in the two transitions. Shaw handled the swim, while Todden, competing in his first multisport event, biked and ran the team to a 1:21:12, tops in the relay.

Scott Renfro (1:12:49 for 3rd in 35-39), Curtis Preston (1:15:30 for 3rd in 40-44), Racheal Gannaway (1:30:17 for 2nd in 40-44), and Nancy Braun (1:31:05 for 3rd in 50-54) also medaled.

In the Route 66 70.3 race, Jason Huber and Rick Vincent, finished 3rd and 4th, respectively in the 40-44 age group, while Torree Steve completed her first ever 70.3 race. Huber completed the race in 5:30:05, good for an overall top-20 finish, while Vincent came in at 5:30:05.

Glenn Tuuk 3rd overall at Manteno

Tuuk posted a 1:00:42 at the Manteno Duathlon, which included a 1-mile run, 12-mile bike, and 3-mile run.

Three Tri-Birds take 1sts at Schaumburg

Jeremy and Jason Bauer and Holly Tompkins all won their age groups at the Splash, Pedal, Dash Triathlon. Jeremy Bauer won the 20-24 division in 1:14:04, while Tompkins won the same on the women’s side in 1:24:21. Jason Bauer won the 20-24 division in the duathlon, coming in at 1:29:33.
