Thurston’s finish top-3 overall; Preston, Hebel win divisions at Sage City

MONTICELLO – Alex and Bella Thurston led a group of Reapers with top-3 overall finishes at the Sage City Triathlon Saturday, and Curtis Preston and Jason Hebel 1st-place finishes age group finishes.

Alex and Bella Thurston, finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the mini sprint race. Alex, one of the younger races in the field at 11, finished the race in 28:38. Bella, age 9, came in at 34:13. Hebel won the Clydesdale division in 33:17.

Preston posted the Reapers’ best time of the day in the sprint race, posting a time of 1:12:40 to take the 40-44 age group.

Buck Manley (1:26:19 in 55-59), Racheal Gannaway (1:28:11 in 40-44), Ami Hileman (1:29:53 in 50-54), Brenda Shaw (1:32:20 in 55-59), and Danielle Pfister (1:36:51 in 25-29) all took 2nd in their age groups.

Steelhead 70.3

Kara Warren placed 25th of 170 in the 30-34 age group at the Steelhead 70.3 race in Benton Harbor, MI. Warren completed the race in 6:07:28, finishing with a strong run of just over two hours.

USAT Sprint Nationals

Lily Matthews was the only Reaper to make the trip to Omaha, NE, and she finished 30th in the 15-19 age group with a time of 1:33:39. Her swim time of 12:08 for the 750-meter course was in the top 10 of all competitors, placing 92nd of nearly 1,100 racers.
